15 Online Side Gigs You Can Do Now

By Mike Haaren, Co-Founder Rat Race Rebellion

If you’re looking for extra cash and flexibility, online side gigs can be a good fit. Here are 15 that are open now. These have no state hiring restrictions, like some work-from-home jobs do, so you can do them from any location. (Disclosure — The links below include affiliate links, which pay us a small commission if you use them. Helps us buy Cheez-Its for the rebellious rats here. Thank you!)

— Transcriptionists (No experience necessary) – Rev hires part-time transcriptionists nationwide. Pay isn’t high — when you start out, it can reportedly be less than minimum wage. On the flip side, you can work when you want, training is free, and you can gain experience for better-paying transcription work later on. For more, click here.

Work from Home P/T Voice Data Collectors (No experience necessary) – Appen – Nationwide. You’d be recording your voice from short prompts on an app. Work from anywhere it’s quiet. No state hiring restrictions mentioned. Flexible schedules. The pay isn’t mentioned, though Glassdoor employee reviews put Appen’s hourly pay range at $9 for Researchers to $30 for “Data Collectors.” That isn’t much help — we’d be surprised if this gig pays $30/hr., though anything’s possible. We’ll update when we learn more.

— Get Paid to Lose Weight — If you want to get in on the “dieting for dollars” craze and up your potential for weight loss success, just bet on yourself at HealthyWage. Then lose the weight and get paid, simple as that. “The average prize for goal achievers is $1,331.” Sounds like a pretty good incentive. Good luck in your weight loss goals!

— Sell Your Smartphone Pix – If you take good vids or photos with your cell, Foap gives you a place to sell them. “When a brand, agency or just anyone who finds your work outstanding purchases a video or picture from your online Foap portfolio, we share the profit with you 50/50,” Foap says. For more, click here.

— Get Paid for Your Sarcasm & Wit – If you’re the one with the sarcastic comebacks or witty comments, Cracked, the humor magazine, offers payment for list-style articles. “26 Sexy Halloween Costumes That Shouldn’t Exist” is an example on their site. They also pay for humorous sets of images. For details, click here.

— Survey Takers – Springboard America – Pays up to $5 cash per survey. Also pays $2 per successful referral. Pays in points redeemable for PayPal cash (as mentioned in their “Terms and Conditions”), or, if you prefer, in Visa cards or Amazon gift cards.

— Get Paid to Teach English Online to Children in China – Education First – Hires people nationwide to teach English online to Chinese children. Pays $12-$19/hr. Part-time, materials provided, set your own schedule. Requirements include a bachelor’s degree in any field, and — by the time of contract — a minimum 40 hour TEFL Certificate or equivalent. The video interview is key, so be sure to prep well. Click here for more.

— Answer Opinion Questions – I-Say – Answer simple opinion questions for points redeemable for rewards like PayPal cash or, if you prefer, Amazon, Target and other gift cards. Another legitimate extra-income option. Click here for details.

— Get Paid Up to $50 to Download Nielsen’s App – Nielsen (The TV/Radio ratings company) – “For each mobile device you register you will receive up to $50 a year,” the company says. For consumer trend data, Nielsen will pay you to install an undetectable app on your smartphone, computer or tablet. The app follows your web use. Your name is separated from the data, and devices run as usual. User IDs and passwords are not collected, the company adds.

Website Testers The companies we’ve listed will pay you to give your feedback on websites and apps. Pay varies, but it’s generally $10-$20 for about 20 minutes of your time.

— Get Paid to Write Lists – Listverse pays $100 for lists of at least 10 items. Lists have to be quirky or unusual. For example, “10 Poisonings with Common Household Items.” Payment via PayPal.

Survey Takers – MyPoints: Another legitimate survey site. Pays cash or (if you prefer) Amazon, Walmart and other gift cards.

Get Cash Back on Your Everyday Purchases – Ibotta: Rebates are one of the easiest ways to get extra cash. Ibotta gets you cash back for purchases at Walmart, Food Lion, Costco, CVS and hundreds more. Free. Cash via PayPal, Venmo, or gift card (your preference). Food Assistance Program purchases also eligible.

— Get Paid to Chat with People Learning English (No experience necessary) – Cambly: If you speak fluent English, Cambly pays people to chat with English learners. You’ll need a laptop or desktop with high-speed net. Pays $0.17 per talk minute ($10.20/hr.). Click here for more.

More Cash Rebates Ebates: To get maximum cash back for any purchase, it’s good to have several rebate apps. For example, Ebates will often offer triple cash back (or more) on purchases, for a limited time. So the 5% rebate you might normally get is raised to 15%. Ebates also offers $25 when you refer a friend and they make a purchase.
